Temporary 9 August: Open Time is back + Temporary Futures
Temporary is open again - but under construction
The Everyday Magic of Making Lists by Arno Karatmaa, Works in Progress, 8 August
Welcome back to Temporary. After a month holiday, Open Time returned on 1 August. Visitors to Temporary may have noticed the intense construction going on in the courtyard. This is part of a large renovation project on the building that will continue until December. We have been promised that it will always be possible to access Temporary during this time, it's just not so obvious for first-time visitors (as our sign is covered) and there are plastic sheets draped over everything.
We have also been told that the very noisy daytime work will mostly finish this week and by the end of next week the major disturbances should be over. All work only happens during daytime hours and usually finishes by 16:00, so evening and weekend experiments are not affected. We apologise for this hassle and look forward to the future, renovated courtyard (in which we will no longer have to walk through a row of garbage containers to access our door). However, this is also a good time to think about the whole situation with Temporary, which brings us to ....Temporary Futures on Saturday
Ava proposed the Temporary Futures experiment back in June, and it honestly couldn't come at a better time. It's now been almost one year since Temporary was launched, and some huge questions loom ahead. Do we keep going? Have we achieved any of the stated goals (or are we at least working towards them)? What's going to happen with the physical space, taking into factors such as the construction work, the need to bring in 1000€ per month to cover costs, etc.?
Thus, Saturday's meeting of Temporary Futures takes on a special importance, and we urge everyone who is even slightly interested in the future of this project to come and have a voice. There is no point to Temporary without people who are interested not just in using the space and the platform, but in helping to steer the direction of the project.
To emphasise how important this will be, we have increased Temporary Futures to award you 75Ŧ for participating! If you cannot attend, please comment on the experiment page if you have any ideas to contribute, and we will take them into consideration. Our website is now available in Finnish!
As some of you may have noticed, Temporary's website is now available in the Finnish language, thanks to the amazing work of Tuukka Sarvi! Let us know if you notice any problems or errors and we'll try to get it fixed as soon as possible. If you have some Temps to spare, why not send Tuukka a few to thank him for his efforts?
